How To Create HERBAL FARM. Do I Need Much Attention For Them?

Hi Guys,

This blog is about how to start HERB FARM, if you are a plant lover or knows how to take care plants perfectly without any efforts then this blog is perfect to you. Let’s dive into the blog.

WHAT IS A HERB FARM?

Herb Farm is usually a farm where herbs are grown for commercial use as well as personal use, herbs may also be grown for their essential oils or raw materials for making herbal products. Herb farms also have culinary, medical, gift shops, classes, fresh-cut and food for sale. There are also some kind of business where they sell potted herb plants for home garden, which is also fall under the category or herb farm.

WHAT DO I REALLY WANT TO START A HERB FARM?

There is nothing much is involved for this business, because herbs can be grown in the terrace, backyard, mini greenhouse or even in the acres of land. The essential key point is that the plant should get sunlight, you should have for potting at home (it is for minimum):

  • 8 cubic feet topsoil
  • 8 cubic feet washed sand
  • 4 cubic feet perlite
  • 12 cubic feet peat moss
  • 4.54 kg (10 pounds) dolomite lime
  • 4.54 kg (10 pounds) dry organic fertiliser
This mixture will be great for six inch pots. But when you prepare it in large areas or on he ground you should be careful with dolomite and dry organic fertiliser.

After all this you should decide what kind of herb your going to grow, you can buy buy seeds online or in offline shops too. YOU SHOULD FIRST GO THROUGH LOCAL LAWS, and find which herb you can sell which can’t.

WHAT ARE THE ONGOING EXPENSES FOR AN HERB FARM?

According to me there won’t be much expenses, it goes to the basic consumables like seeds, fertiliser, compost, utilities, packaging and transportation. If you are going to farm in your backyard or some where in your home then potting soil and pots will cost you, but if your making it in rented land then the rent of the land costs you. All the consumables costs you around few thousand rupees (few hundred dollars), the rent of the land will fluctuate according to your location. All of these can be done around Rs 1.5 lakhs (2000$) [Excluding Land].

DO I NEED LICENSE TO SELL HERBS?

It may vary around the location you make business, in some states you should obtain herb business license, state permits. It also vary what kind of herbs you sell, if you sell medical herbs then you should have medical approved license.

TO WHOM CAN I SELL IT?

You can target restaurants, retailers, and even consumers. The best profit you gain from consumers sill it is least steady income, if you sell it to a restaurant or a retailer they charge you less than consumers but still they might buy whole farm.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I COST THE HERBS?

The prices of the herbs depends on the location, what type of herb your selling and the quality of the herbs. Some of the profitable herbs are oregano, parsley, catnip, basil, chives, cilantro, chamomile, lavender, marshmallow.

SHOULD I MAINTAIN IT WITH LABOURS?

You don’t need exactly the labour if you planning to do it in a backyard, terrace or in any other small places, you might need the labour if your making it out in a large land.

If this wasn’t you active income then you may need a labour because it should be well maintained very well for best quality of the herbs.

You can even make organic soaps and even perfumes. I think this blog will be useful for your business or a start up.

Thank You.
